In March 2019, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and chairman of the Supreme National Committee for the Year of Tolerance, launched the Zayed Tolerance Pledge — an individual commitment intended to anchor in everyday life the values that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan held to be foundational for the UAE.
The pledge invited individuals across society — in workplaces, schools and universities — to make personal and collective commitments showing that tolerance is a practice before it is a slogan.
It also served as a public message from the UAE to the wider world: a country that hosts more than 200 nationalities, with laws that guarantee respect, dignity and equality, framing tolerance as a civic virtue worth embracing.
The campaign asked the public to circulate the hashtags #ZayedTolerancePledge and #تعهد_زايد_للتسامح, and to record videos reading the pledge aloud — a deliberate strategy to embed the commitment in younger generations through participation rather than proclamation.
